about me(ander)

I rediscovered a part of myself on a road trip through the west in 2015 with a 50 year old camera and couple rolls of film. I found creative joy again at the sight of light leaks, of film grain, of discovering the hidden function of a forgotten object. Film has allowed me to find my voice and my vision as an artist, embracing my desire to connect deeply with my subjects and my craft.

My journey has been sinuous, forever surrendering to the flow of creative energy. I felt called to reevaluate my inspirations and contributions and while I will forever be in pursuit of deliberate living, I wanted to call my process what it was: meandering. I follow my own rhythm, nature’s rhythms, ebbs and flows, sharpening myself on the curves and depositing what no longer serves. I have come a long way to listen, to soften to it all.  I endeavor to be like the river- in every sense a force of nature, carving out its own place in the world.

The west is my home. I’m endlessly inspired by these landscapes, the dynamic contrasts of the land and the fierce adaptations of the life here. These natural palettes soothe my soul and bring actual tears to my eyes. I hope I never see enough.

I shoot mainly with a 35mm Pentax K1000 and a medium format Pentax 67 II. I’m partial to Kodak film, but could never pick a favorite. In the real world, I work locally in Denver as a printmaker, helping artists bring their work to others. I’m fortunate enough to be able to print all of my own work and build and stretch each canvas, too.

Reach out if you have a project in mind, I would love to take you up on it.

With love,

Kristen
